LIVEBLOG: Town of the day

LIVINGSTON, MONTANA

Of the 2,362 (give or take a dozen) Ye Olde Wild West towns I drove through today getting from Bozeman to the Black Hills, Livingston, Montana was the clear winner. Figures it was the first stop, just a half hour or so east of bustling Bozeman.
Livingston is the right mix of new and old. Bozeman feels mostly new these days, being so busy and Cali-rado and all. Billings is too big and too ugly. Sheridan, Wyoming is great, but too western. (How much western wear do we actually need?) There were other towns. Boy were there ever. (I clocked nearly 500 miles today.)
Livingston, besides having an abundance of great architecture, has things like grain silos that are still grain silos, restaurants advertising pot roast suppers and an old school chinese restaurant. It's like a museum. A fun museum. With celebrity guest appearances.
